To
quote from its brief 'history', Amity Freemasonry Lodge was formed for a
specific purpose 'by a group of Past Master masons from various lodges who had
come together and decided that they wished to meet as a dining lodge.

Lodge Apollo was the last lodge to be consecrated in the Transvaal before that
province became part of the Union of South Africa on I July 1910. 'Lodge'
preceded 'Apollo' in the name to distinguish the masons Lodge from many other
lodges called Apollo.

The
consecration of Freemasons Lodge Arcadia, was to be a unique occasion in South
Africa, for the ceremony was conducted in the presence of the MW the Grand
Master, the Earl of Scarbrough.

and its founders included freemasons prominent on the Transvaal masonic scene.

who are masons, in particular freemasonry members of the South African Institute

founder masons a stand and in the event the masonic hall was completed by June
