New Horizons Lodge was the first 'English 'lodge to
be consecrated on the West Rand for 80 years. There
were only seven Founders and the initial thinking
was to have a dining lodge, with a strong
ritualistic basis. Although formal dining proved
impracticable, the Charter Master, Bro Isaac Beron,
gave the lodge strong leadership and it soon settled
down at the masonic hall in Rex Street, Roodepoort.
However in 1981 the premises were sold, subject to a
lease, and New Horizons joined nine other lodges in
supporting the proposed new Masonic Centre in Andrew
Street, with Isaac Beron as Chairman of the building
committee. The new centre was consecrated on 5 June
1986, and immediately after the Consecration, Bro
Beron was installed in the chair of New Horizons
Lodge for the third time.
Early financial problems, especially in relation to
the building of the new centre at a time of
escalating costs, have substantially been overcome,
and New Horizons Lodge is playing its part in
maintaining 'English' Freemasonry on the West Rand.
