Park Lane Masons Lodge Freemasons - South Africa Lodges

The Different Freemasons Lodges in the District of South Africa North

Lodge Name: Park Lane

Lodge Number: 8657
Consecrated: 1975
Region: Johannesburg
Address:
P.O. Box 301  Olivedale
History of the Lodge:

Park Lane was formed to carry the name of the District headquarters in the expectation that it would be available to serve as a masonic home for brethren relocating to the then Transvaal.

The Lodge has had a good and fairly continuous intake of new members. However, with only three of its founders being available to go through the chair it has taken a number of years to establish a clear progression of offices within the Lodge. One consequence of this was that the Charter Master, W Bro Doug Cook, has occupied the chair eight times. No doubt his very hard work for the Lodge contributed to his receiving Grand honours in 1990.

As a 'District headquarters' lodge, Park Lane has sought to assist other lodges, by supporting them in their workings or by providing joining members. It was one of the earliest lodges to qualify for the Heritage Fund jewel, and has recently expanded the range of its activities by becoming paired with Highveld Lodge, No 7750.

Meeting place: Freemasons' Hall 8 Park Lane, Parktown Johannesburg

While Freemasonry is the largest and best know fraternal organisation the world has ever seen, it is without a doubt the least understood. It is hoped that this web site will help to make people have a better understanding of the organisation and in particular its activities in South Africa.   Read more about Masonry...
