Delville Masons Lodge Freemasons - South Africa Lodges

The Different Freemasons Lodges in the District of South Africa North

Lodge Name: Delville

Lodge Number: 7231
Consecrated: 1952
Region: Germiston
Address:
P.O. Box 8  Germiston
History of the Lodge:

The Germiston suburb of Delville carries strong memories of the First World War, with street names such as Somme, Vimy Ridge, Mons, Menin, Douai, Arras and Paschendaele. And the founders of Delville Lodge were especially mindful of the battle of Delville Wood 36 years before, when the South African Brigade, of 3200 soldiers, suffered over 2800 casualties.

The lodge meets at the 'Temple Sinai' Masonic Centre in Germiston. Its members are drawn from across the community and an interesting feature of the earlier days is that there were eleven 'father and son' combinations. Two members of distinction were the Charter Master, W Bro W A G Johnson inevitably known as 'Wag', and his successor, W Bro George Taylor. Both were as active as health permitted into their eighties and well deserved their Grand honours in the Craft and Royal Arch.

Overall the Lodge has made sound progress.

Meeting place: Sinai 60 Grace Str., Parkhill Gdns, Germiston

While Freemasonry is the largest and best know fraternal organisation the world has ever seen, it is without a doubt the least understood. It is hoped that this web site will help to make people have a better understanding of the organisation and in particular its activities in South Africa.   Read more about Masonry...
