How do you join the Freemasons ? Surprise !
You don't get asked,  you yourself ask.


Freemasons do not directly ask men to join. Long tradition has established that an interested man asks a Mason to become a Mason. This practice continues to this day, but with much less rigidity and secrecy than when our grandfathers were Masons.

Fifty years ago pamphlets about Masonry and the idea of a public website like this would have been virtually unthinkable and explanations like this were rare and generally very frowned upon.
 Freemasonary Exsequi Lodge. The Lodge was formed to provide a home for business managers who are masons, in particular freemasonry members of the South African Institute of Management.
Alchemy Lodge was formed to foster closer and fraternal ties between pharmacists who are masons.
To quote from its brief 'history', Amity Freemasons Lodge was formed for a specific purpose 'by a group of Past Master masons from various lodges who had come together and decided that they wished to meet as a dining lodge.
South AfricaApollo Lodge was the last lodge to be consecrated in the Transvaal before that province became part of the Union of South Africa on I July 1910. 'Lodge' preceded 'Apollo' in the name to distinguish the masons Lodge from many other lodges called Apollo.
The consecration of Freemasons Lodge Arcadia , was to be a unique occasion in South Africa, for the ceremony was conducted in the presence of the MW the Grand Master, the Earl of Scarbrough.
Astrea Freemasons Lodge - The origin of the name is uncertain although the Secretary has suggested a possible link via the founders, several masons of whom, including the Charter Master, came from Russia.
Baden Powell Freemasons Lodge As the name of the lodge suggests it was formed to attract member masons and former members of the scouting movement. Although the founder of the movement was not a Mason.
Freemasons South Africa Bryanston Freemasons Lodge was formed to bridge the gap for freemasonry between Johannesburg and Pretoria.
Corona Freemasons South Africa. The Lodge was formed with the intention of meeting 'north of the railway', and thus closer to member masons homes.
Freemasons South Africa Edenvale Freemasons South Africa, in the 'fifties', was a fast growing suburb of Johannesburg and a strong demand arose for a 'local' lodge for freemasonry.
Freemasons South AfricaDoornfontein Freemasons South Africa. The lodge took its name from the first suburb of Johannesburg and its founders included freemasons prominent on the Transvaal masonic scene.

Flame Lily Freemasons Lodge In 1973 an officer from the District of Rhodesia & Nyasaland, approached all other expatriate masons from that District residing in the Transvaal to invite their help in forming a lodge.
Emulation Freemasons Lodge in South Africa In the middle of the 1970's candidates for freemasonry were coming forward in good numbers in Benoni.
Friendship Freemasons Lodge when, in 1984, this lodge was brought into the Transvaal District it became, at one and the same time, the oldest and youngest of our freemasonry lodges.
Germiston Freemasons Lodge One of the twelve lodges constituting the District in 1895. Germiston, founded in 1887.
Gaborone Freemasons Lodge Prior to 1977 there was only one freemasonry English Constitution lodge in Botswana.

Kensington Freemasons - In the early 1920s Kensington developed into one of the most popular residential suburbs of Johannesburg and the only delaying factor in forming a local lodge was the lack of suitable premises for the masons to gather.
Kosmos Freemasons - In 1896 a group of masons in Kimberley petitioned the Grand Lodge of Scotland for a new lodge, which was duly constituted as the Cosmopolitan Lodge No 838.
Highveld Freemasons - The Kinross, now known as the Evander gold field was opened up in the 1950s and attracted many masons to the area.
Hillbrow Freemasons Lodge - Hillbrow Lodge was one of several lodges formed in Johannesburg following the resumption of normal freemasonry activities after the South African War.
Ionic Freemasons Lodge - The Lodge, formed to serve the Turffontein area, was consecrated at the Plein Street masonic hall but then held its regular meetings in Turffontein, first at the Presbyterian Church Hall
Isando Freemasons Lodge - The Lodge was the first English lodge to meet in Kempton Park, and as there was already a Scottish lodge bearing that name, the founders decided to use that of the industrial suburb, Isando
Jack Folly Freemasons Lodge - Jack Folly Lodge although not the first freemasonry dining lodge in the Transvaal introduced a variation by meeting at 17.30, members coming in lounge suits direct from their place of work
Jeppestown Freemasons - the Ford and Jeppe Estate Company offered the intending founder masons a stand and in the event the masonic hall was completed by June 1893.
